A few days in paradise

Quirky style, full of character. Friendly staff, excellent cocktail bar on a stunning jetty. Great pool.

A lovely location, great staff

Good location, nice surroundings,friendly and welcoming staff

The flies at breakfast were annoying especially landing on the food. (I understand it’s difficult to control) I would’ve liked the shower gel and shampoo to have been labelled ( just my personal preference)

The staff are friendly and helpful. The pool is very nice and they have a great boardwalk over the Gulf ending in a bar and sunning/swimming deck with sunbeds. There are also some salas around the property which are great to hang out in if you want to read and look out over the water.

This is a beachfront property as they say but it is not a swimming beach which was disappointing. I think they should be forthcoming about that. If you're looking for white sand with umbrellas and palm trees this is not here. Ao Soun Yai is a few minutes walk - but depending on the tide, it can be a bit of a swampy and plastic trashy walk.

Beautiful views for a price

The resort is situated on a hill overlooking the sea with a sunset view. The pier bar is perfect for chilling all day, snorkeling, and sunset cocktails. The staff is super friendly and speak good English.

I think the rooms are overpriced. I stayed during Thailand’s high season, but this hotel charged for everything on top of what I feel is already a high price for the basic room. Unfortunately, I found bugs in my bed one night after returning from dinner. The staff had it cleaned first thing in the morning, but I had a hard time understanding the price after that. The breakfast buffet is just okay.

Failed to meet my expectations

Parts of the resort are absolutely lovely: The pier and pool area for instance.

It’s such a shame! This resort has real potential to be great, but has been poorly managed and left to run down. You can see that huge investment was originally made, however it now seems to be a shadow of its former self. My first impressions were of the reception area which looked cluttered and used as a mini storage area. Young staff constantly on their mobile phones and you could hear their phones going off. This seemed unprofessional to me and the fault of the hotel management. Wooden pathways around reception and restaurant area had broken slats and seemed dangerous. Around the pool, the electricity wasn’t always switched on to the pool for the water fountains, filter nor jacuzzi. We liked the opportunity to snorkel off the pier. The resort is set at the bottom of one of the steepest hills on the island. Beach area to right of resort is an eyesore with litter and seaweed. Dinner was fine, but we got bitten. Staff at breakfast had a real attitude problem. Getting an omelette was a real challenge. Breakfast staff just looked disinterested and bored (again on their mobiles). The room was adequate, 3 star and no more. Cleanish room, large beds, good air con, bathroom in need of some renovation and smelt of drains. Limited hottish water. Water stains in wet room and urine stains on back of toilet seat. The toilet door had a hole in with a flap covering it. There was coffee making facilities and a fridge, but no safe. The cleaning staff obviously don’t clean between the fly screen and window, there was a rather large dead critter there. The rooms like the resort seemed tired with faded and dirty stained curtains. The electricity was not stable and kept going in and out which was the same for the Wi-Fi. I’m perhaps being over critical here because it’s supposed to be one of the best resorts in Koh Mak. OK it’s an island resort in Thailand, but I paid $140 a night, so maybe my expectations were higher.

We traveled as a group of four and enjoyed our stay at the resort. Senior staff were hospitable and friendly, although some other junior staff tended to be less professional, but this is understandable due to the resort's location. The staff were generous in solving emerging problems. For example, we booked a two-bedroom suite, but the photos shown in booking.com were erroneous. Staff were able to solve the issue immediately and generously and we did appreciate. We liked the location. Watching sunset at the resort's bar was truly pleasant. There was plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy. The resort is just opposite to Koh Kham, which is gorgeous. We recommend that the ferry or kayak service to Koh Kham can be complementary to the resort's guests rather than being a paid service.

We stayed there during the rainy season. We observed that the resort was under a low period; therefore, this may compromise the service quality in general, which should not be. The breakfast sets were unreasonably expensive and low-quality, perhaps due to our observation above. We recommend that the resort may have two separate food menus: low and high season. So guests can have the appropriate expectation for the different quality of the restaurant service. The restroom was problematic. Our restroom in the two-bedroom suite was stuck everyday due to the daily rain blocking the sewer. The shampoo and soap bottles were not clean. The perfume bottles were not refilled. There were no slippers provided although it said so. The water quality was poor. Bugs were common. Since sandflies were pervasive at the beach site, we recommend the resort to provide a repellent or therapeutic cream in guest rooms.

High ceiling in the room.

High ceiling in the room. Spacious. Clean and nice view.

For breakfast you have to pay for your own cappuccino instead of being including in the breakfast buffet. I've never heard of a hotel like that before.

I would look at other options first, but might stay again.

The view was gorgeous, and the room had a balcony with a cozy hammock, a nice table & chairs, and a comfy sofa. The staff were fantastic, very friendly, very helpful, very attentive. The pier is nice, and if you like to snorkel it's the perfect spot! They serve a few Western dishes, as well as Thai food, although the Thai food is better, and very well priced! The massage was great. Pool has a nice view.

The location isn't the best if you want a beach with soft sand that is safe to walk & swim barefoot. The bathroom ceiling is not closed off, so there were lots of bugs and geckos (and gecko poop). The restaurant food was just okay-- again, a lot of bugs in the breakfast buffet. It is quite a rough stairway to get up to the room. The shower and bathtub had very little hot water pressure, and the shower wouldn't stay a steady temperature, it fluctuated from way too hot to cold.

The area and the pier is really nice - some of the staff were also really nice!

We found some bed-bugs and the Bungalow needs some renovation- also we were located Next to a Construction area and the washing house so it was sometimes very noisey... if you decide to go you should choose the Bungalows on the right side from the sea!

Romantic and relaxing stay in Koh Mak

The general setup is quite nice, relaxing and romantic. The staff is very helpful and even funny sometimes. The rooms are large enough (ours was round, which made it interesting). The restaurant has a nice selection of foods (Thai and international), not expensive and quite tasty. You can (and should) rent a scooter there (400 BHT per day), otherwise you might feel isolated.

The ¨beach¨ around the hotel is full of rocks and not nice, but they have a peer that goes straight into the bay with a sort of reef, full of fish, corals and more (great for snorkeling). The roof of my room was like cottage style (straw) and although very nice, some stuff would fall straight in the bed. The location is a bit isolated, so better get a scooter and see the rest of the island.

Great privacy and good value for money.

The staff at this resort were kind and helpful. If you're too lazy to walk up and down the hill, the restaurant close to the beach served delicious food at affordable price (however you can also find cheaper food around the island).

Our two-bed room suite was the smallest suite I ever stayed at but for the price we paid it was ok. The suite we had was on the 2nd floor and it has nice sea view situated as close as you can get to the water, thus you can hear the waves which was relaxing. However the room was on the far right of the resort located next to a strip of beach which was very dirty.

The location is beautiful, they have their own pier with a bar. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Most rooms have a great view. We had an extremely comfortable chair pillow on our balcony.

The bed is actually just a firm mattress. When one person is turning or moving, the mattress on the side of the other person shakes quite a bit, it woke me up a couple of times.

Nice and friendly resort

The room was very nice, the staff is very friendly and helpful. The resort has a very good restaurant. It's recommandable!

The pond in front of the bungalow was not well maintained. If it would be filled with water and plants, it could be beautiful.

1) our room (suite with sea view) was really lovely, unique...

1) our room (suite with sea view) was really lovely, unique style, lot of space, big terrasse with outside tub and covered sitting area 2) the area looks nice, good view on the bay and Koh Kam, the infinity swimming pool is great, loads of trees and plants makes you feel like close to the jungle. 3) the restaurant is fairly good. 4) in general the staff is welcoming and smiling. 5) it's nicely equipped 6) there is a very nice stilt bar, perfect for the sunset, with nice drinks. So overall, a mixed experience. And a bit overpriced

1) BUT many other rooms were much less attractive 2) BUT this very little beach accessible for the hotel is dirty and on the other side there is mangrove full of trash 3) BUT the breakfast is awful 4) BUT some don't feel happy to be there 5) BUT the furnitures in general are old and not comfortable (most of the chairs are hard without any cushion) 6) BUT again, the comfort of the chairs is really lacking.
